Organized in Spring of 1987, our concerts are sponsored by individuals
as well as leading area businesses. They are offered to the public free
of charge. Participating musicians come from many of the nation's most-recognized
musical organizations. Since 1993, the Blanche
Bryden Sunflower Music Institute has developed into
an outstanding educational experience for talented young
musicians ages 16-26 from across the country.
Performances are held in White Concert Hall, Garvey Fine Arts Center,
Washburn University. In the fall of 2000 a major refurbishment of
the 1117 seats, acoustics, lighting and sound-reinforcement re-established
this facility as one of the premiere concert halls in the Midwest.
Besides housing the Sunflower Music Festival, White Concert Hall
is home to all music department concerts, the Topeka Symphony Orchestra,
and countless University and civic events.
Post concert Talk Back sessions allow those who stay to get the
personal perspective of participating musicians.
